I’m sick to the back teeth of Heart Internet, the hosting company who provide webspace for RealVG, Dream17 and this very blog. Y’see, they took Dream17 down late last night and now they refuse to put it back up unless I remove the Worms 3D demo and the Worms Armageddon 1.00 > 3.00 patch. It’s bloody stupid of them to advertise as “unlimited bandwidth” and then sneak a little clause in the Customer Agreement saying that if a website receives excessive bandwidth then they will take the site down. Even more stupid that they do not provide any anti-hotlinking tools to their customers. What a stupid way of doing things.
That seems pretty golly gosh darn shit, if you ask me. I’m fairly sure there are laws against that sort of chicanery as well, so I shall have to do my research.
As a temporary measure, I have no choice but to take the “offending” files down. As soon as I can afford it, I’m switching to a different host for Dream17. Heart Internet are about as much use as a sponge cricket ball.

Well, you know who I recommend, especially as you’ll be over here before too long…

Yes, I am looking into the laws and loopholes as well, as I’m certain it’s illegal. Particularly as false advertising - how can a company advertise a service that they don’t even offer? That’s about as legal as my SEO company saying ‘UNLIMITED FREE MASSAGES WITH EVERY ORDER’.

I had a look at their website and there aren’t even any asterisks suggesting that conditions apply. They’re being extremely poor about this whole thing and I have no doubt that they’re breaking the law here either. My (wholly unprofessional*) advice would be to ask a solicitor or someone to have a look at everything and tell you if they’re doing anything wrong, and then have him help you draft a letter.

My neighbour is, as previously mentioned, a fully qualified Magistrate, so I shall be asking him for advice.

You’re really going to have to find an equally useful neighbour stateside.

Don’t worry, we have friends who are corporate lawyers, copyright lawyers, prosecutors and such over her. Not neighbors, but only a phone call away :o)
