Because I think I’m far more important than I actually am

So it goes without saying that I’m in Los Angeles now. I experienced some killer jetlag last night, and I’m still a little braindead today although I found it very difficult to put coherent sentences together yesterday afternoon. I went to bed about 7pm and woke up at 4am. My aim tonight is to stay up until 9pm. I’m a rebel, I know.

There’s a lot of little things that I still have to get used to, though. I’m already pretty used to some of the big things but the little things are a bit trickier. This keyboard, for example, isn’t the same as the keybaord I had on my computer back in Luton. The keys are in a different place, for one. The Enter key is entirely the wrong shape. I like L-shaped Enter keys. They make sense. The enter key on this keyboard is only slightly smaller than the Right Shift key, and there’s a \ key where any sensible keyboard would have the upper-pokey bit of an Enter key. An L-shaped Enter key. The @ and ” are in the wrong places too, and theres no pound sign on the numeric keys.

Like I said. Little things.

I bought myself a new computer today, which we’re going to set up tomorrow. It’s a nice system - very nice, according to my Dad, who has a better head for PC specs than I do - and I got it for a very good price. Yes, Daniel, this means we’ll be able to play Civilization IV properly, assuming I can pull myself away from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City long enough!

I’ll write more when… well, when I have more to write.

Glad you made it okay. Jetlag is a bugger, but you should be okay in a day or so. Enjoy yourself and have a great time.

Ben - why don’t you import a UK keyboard? Non-L-shaped enter keys are utterly ridiculous and should be banned.

Hell, I still call it the *Return* key.

And good news on the Civ IV front! :)

“How was I supposed to know he had L-shaped keys in his country? He’s an immigrant! Why would someone go from a country with L-shaped enter keys to live in a country with no L-shaped enter keys? It makes no sense!”

    ;)

Strictly, I think it is the “return” key. “Enter” is the one on the num-pad. Though they both do precisely the same thing, my laptop has a toggle key to turn the one into the other.

On US keyboards, they’re both called enter.

I suppose it’s simpler for them, poor dears. Though odd considering it’s known as a Carriage Return in the ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange). Both buttons actually send different keyboard commands, even though they both make the same thing happen.

A new PC and an Xbox 360 Elite, and a week hasn’t passed? Be careful you don’t run away with your spending, Ben.

What are the specs on your new PC?

    And welcome to America, Ben.

You can see the specs on my Xfire profile.

Glad you got there okay. I found your “I see dumb people” T shirt in with some washing jackie asked me to do. You’re gonna be needing that Ben!

Oh no! I thought I’d packed that. How annoying. That’ll need to be posted to me, then.
