Because I think I’m far more important than I actually am

About Me

Posted at 11:56 pm

I always feel a bit silly writing these things. I usually write “About Me” pages in the third person, but I think that I need to stop doing that.

I’m a 22 year-old Brit living in Los Angeles, having left my long-time home of Luton in England in mid-2007. My passion in life is writing - if you were to ask me what my job is, I’d tell you I’m a Project Coordinator for Disney ABC Television Group. If you were to ask me what I am, I’d tell you I’m a writer. I’m the creator and de facto Head Writer of scifi-comedy webcomic Jump Leads, with the art provided by the inescapably brilliant JjAR. Together, JjAR and I act as the Webcomic Gurus for SoulGeek, or rather we will do once the page is updated.

My other writing work includes a semi-regular column for gaming website Game Partisan, where against all common sense I was voted in as Editor in Chief in early-2008. I’ve also had work published in the old pre-Future Publishing Nintendo Official Magazine UK. I would be tempted to say that I have written for the BBC’s website, but that written work extends as far as writing occasional emails to the Magazine Monitor, some of which have been published (mostly in the final months of 2005).

I’m into video games, as well as books, movies and good television. (Good television, by the way, is shows like Doctor Who, Scrubs, Red Dwarf, South Park, Coupling, The IT Crowd, and Who’s Line is it Anyway?. It is not shows like Will & Grace, World’s Most Extreme Car Chases, Friends, Deal or No Deal, or Loose Women.) I also like music, although I can’t say there’s much of it these days that’s any good.

Since my daring escape from England, there’s just the one Ben Paddon left living in the UK. He lives in Exeter and doesn’t know how to keep his blog up to date. Despite being 2 years my elder, I still consider him to be an underhanded little bastard who stole my name for his own nefarious purposes.

    Hi Ben,
I hope you don’t mind me contacting you, I’ve enjoyed browsing through your blog.
I write for The Observer’s monthly ‘Woman’ magazine and specifically for a regular ‘Love and Relationships’ slot called ‘The Ex Files’.
The Ex Files takes a reflective, sensitive look at relationships which have ended, and asks both ex-partners to give their perspectives on what went wrong. It is not about detailing every event along the way, but more giving an emotional overview of the relationships and both partners involved. I am always looking for interesting, articulate subjects for this slot, and wondered if you and your ex girlfriend might consider being involved.
The Observer doesn’t pay for people’s stories but they are happy to give businesses/charities/web sites a big mention in the article.
If you are interested, it would entail telephone interviews and a studio photo shoot.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Best,

    Jane

To anyone who’s curious about the above note: I politely declined Jane’s offer.
